Decision details

Use of The Richard Herrod Playing Fields for the Gedling Show

Reference: D331

Decision Maker: Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To allow the Gedling Show to take place on the Richard Herrod playing fields. The Gedling Show is the Borough’s largest horticultural, classic car and motorbike show with free public entry.

Decision:

To hold the Gedling Show on the Richard Herrod Playing Fields.

This decision is dependent on correct insurance being held and an event risk assessment being in place. For the fun fair, correct insurance will need to be held by the operators and Gedling Borough will require the issuing of a lease indemnifying Gedling Borough Council in the event of accident for any fun fair activities held on the playing fields and to ensure the land is reinstated should any damage occur whilst accessing and exiting the site.

Reasons for the decision:

The Gedling Show takes place on Sunday 6 September 2015 11am-5pm. As well as a fun fair, operated by James Mellors Amusements Ltd and Proctors (Nottm) Fun Fairs Ltd, the event also incorporates horticultural, fun dog and a classic car and motorbike show.
Entertainment is also provided with a central arena, sideshows, as well as street entertainers present.
Craft and charity stalls, a dance marquee, a children's arts and craft marquee, a SEN Chill Out Zone as well as a food court will be available.
There will be a Battle of Britain Memorial flypast
Parking is available in the Richard Herrod Centre car park with extra spaces at Carlton Forum Leisure Centre.
Security will be in place for the duration of the show.

This event encourages the use of the playing fields for community use and also facilitates the provision of entertainment, which encourages social cohesion.

Alternative options considered:

Not to hold the Gedling Show on the Richard Herrod playing fields
