Leisure Centres – Staff Efficiency Savings - Deletion of Vacant Posts

Reference: D260

Decision Maker: Chief Executive

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

To seek the approval of the Chief Executive, under delegated authority, to staff efficiencies proposed by deletion of vacant posts identified in Leisure Centres and therefore achieve the saving target of £50,000 agreed at Full Council in March 2014.
To seek approval to amend the Councils establishment list accordingly with effect from 24th October 2014.

Decision:

To approve, under the authority delegated to the Chief Executive, to the proposals to delete of a number of vacant posts in Leisure Centres as indicated in the officer’s report.
To approve the removal the identified posts from the Councils establishment and achieve resultant full year savings of £50,000.

Reasons for the decision:

To enable Officers to achieve the £50,000 saving target expected to be delivered in Leisure Centres staffing. A full review of Leisure Centre staffing levels below the grade of Assistant Manager has been undertaken and a number of posts of Cleaners and Leisure Attendants are now no longer required. It is proposed that by deleting vacant posts there is no risk to employees and no resultant redundancies will take place.

Alternative options considered:

Full Council approved a reduction of £50,000 in the Leisure Centre budgets in relation to posts of cleaners, attendants and receptionists. A full review has been undertaken and these proposals enable that to be achieved. If the proposals are not approved the saving cannot be achieved.
