To seek approval to award a Discretionary
Disabled Facilities Grant beyond the adopted policy limit of
£10,000
The Portfolio Holder authorises the approval
of a Discretionary Disabled Facilities Grant for circumstances
outside the current policy
The priorities within the current Gedling Plan
include:
•Reducing hardship and provide support to the most
vulnerable
•Improve health and wellbeing
Approving the grant will directly improve the health and wellbeing
for the service user and their family.
The service user relies heavily on the help of
their parents and moving properties as an individual is not
feasible.
Finding alternative accommodation is unlikely because of the needs
of the client and the family make up. Properties with adaptation
potential, as well as the number of bedrooms needed are very
limited.
Self-funding is not possible because the family is on low
income.
Charitable funding has been explored but has been unsuccessful.
Further investigation into charitable funding will take a
significant amount of time and may not be successful.
Fulfil the Council’s statutory duty and approve the mandatory
and discretionary grants equalling £40,000.00. This combined
with the Jigsaw contribution of £17,658.00 will leave a
shortfall of £43,874.80 for the family to find. This will not
be possible.
