To seek authorisation to delegate decisions on the acquisition of property to be used as temporary accommodation, to the Chief Executive in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Resources and Reputation, in order to swiftly deliver the agreed actions from the Temporary Accommodation Options Appraisal (TAOA) which was presented to Cabinet in February 2021.

THAT the Leader of the Council:

1)            Notes that a Capital Budget of £1,154,000 was approved on 4 March 2021 by Full Council. This is to cover the cost of purchasing 8 properties for use as temporary accommodation.

2)            Delegates authority to the Chief Executive to approve residential  property acquisition in respect of temporary accommodation in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Resources and Reputation as detailed in this report.

To ensure the timely acquisition of properties for use of temporary accommodation in line with the TAOA and budget approvals.

The delegation to officer level could be rejected, however, this will not enable officers to act as swiftly on the acquisition of suitable properties, any delay in the current market climate is likely to mean that the Council loses out on suitable acquisitions. The delegation, in consultation with the relevant Portfolio Holder ensures that the Executive are still involved in the decision to acquire in each instance.
