To seek authority to approve a
“Discretionary Grant for Clients With Less Than £6,000
Capital Savings” outside the current adopted policy
The Portfolio Holder authorises the approval
of a Discretionary Disabled Facilities Grant for circumstances
outside the current policy
The priorities within the current Gedling Plan
include:
•Reducing hardship and provide support to the most
vulnerable
•Improve health and wellbeing
Approving the grant will directly improve the health and wellbeing
for Mrs Eason and reduce the risk of injury to her and her family,
friends and carers in trying to aid her in accessing the stairs and
bathroom.
Family to fund the works themselves. This is
not an option as the family are in financial hardship. They have
been referred to Nottingham Energy Partnership for a Covid Support
Grant and have been signposted to the council tax department for
help with making payments.
Housing Association, Places for People, to fund the shortfall.
Places for People have stated they cannot contribute to the
scheme.
Charitable funding. The Occupational Therapist, Tammy Shaw has made
enquiries which are ongoing. If successful, this could take a long
time and it is unlikely that it will cover the entire
shortfall.
Pay in instalments. Dolphin mobility provided the option of a 6
month instalment repayment system, but the family have more money
going out than coming in currently so couldn’t afford the
repayments.
Move house. There are few adapted houses or bungalows available in
the social housing sector. If the family went on the rehousing
waiting list it is likely they would be living as they are
currently for years until a suitable home becomes available.
