Annual Assembly 2009

The Annual Assembly is the most important event of the year for members and officers focused on local standards and the Code of Conduct.

This year, we're opening the floor to you - focusing on your experiences, expertise, challenges and successes.

The Annual Assembly brings over 800 members of the standards community together, giving you a unique opportunity to discuss how you are delivering local standards and to share good practice, ideas and innovations.

Why attend?

We've listened to your feedback - and this year the Annual Assembly programme will focus on listening to your experiences, responding to your concerns and sharing your learning and ideas.

We've worked with a forum of monitoring officers, independent chairs and standards committee members to develop a range of workshops, plenary sessions and advice clinics that will concentrate on sharing good practice, and will answer your questions on the standards framework and ethical governance issues.

Session themes to date include:

  • sharing the lessons you have learnt about local assessment
  • your experiences of managing investigations and sanctions
  • understanding the latest revisions to the Code of Conduct
  • the practical outcomes of alternative action
  • a step-by-step guide to setting up joint standards committees

For the first time, experienced monitoring officers and standards committee members will be in the spotlight, delivering focused question and answer sessions, giving you another chance to hear from colleagues across the country and learn from their experiences.

Who should attend?

With more than 800 delegates from across the local government community expected to come together at the Assembly, we believe it is vital for standards committee members, including chairs, independent members and parish representatives to attend.

Feedback shows that the Assembly is also the most important event of the year for officers managing standards, and they will find the opportunity to share good practice and network with their peers invaluable. Demand for last year's Assembly was higher than ever, and the event was fully booked by early July.
