4.1 To note the comments in the report and accept the consultation responses at Appendix 1 as the formal comments of the Borough Council, to be forwarded Department of Communities and Local Government by 17th October 2011.

474.1 National Planning Policy Framework

Consideration was given to a report of the Planning Policy Manager for the Head of Planning and Environment about the publication of a Government consultation on the Draft National Planning Policy Framework. Responses to the consultation are required by 17th October 2011.

4.2 Volunteer Leave Scheme

Consideration was given to a report of the Head of Customer Services and Organisational Development, which outlined proposals for the introduction of a Volunteer Leave Scheme, whereby employees are encouraged and given time off to undertake volunteering with local Voluntary and Community Organisations.
48Consideration was given to a report of the Council Solicitor and Monitoring Officer informing members of the impact on the Council's resources of dealing with requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and Data Protection Act 1998

50Councillor Pulk (Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture) gave an update on the success of the Council's Leisure Schemes at the APSE Awards, which included nominations for best internal team of the year, best healthy living initiative and best partnership work. Members agreed to make a feature of this success at the ‘Stars of Gedling' awards this year. He also outlined ideas and proposals for supporting the Olympics next year.

Councillor Feeney (Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability) reported on the success of the Free car parking launch, and gave an update on the Public Realms Works.


Councillor R. Allan (Portfolio Holder for Economic and Strategic Development) reported on progress with consultation on the Aligned Core Strategy.

Councillor J. Hollingsworth (Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing) gave an update on the Public Health Bill, and informed members of progress of the Health and Wellbeing Board in setting the budget and work stream priorities in advance of the April 2013 target date for taking on the full Public Health responsibilities.

Councillor J. Creamer (Portfolio Holder for Community and Employee Relations) informed Members of the imminent appointment of three apprentices to the Council, and gave details of his liaison with Parishes in partnership with Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire.

Councillor M. Payne (Portfolio Holder for Communications and Public Protection) thanked officers for the work carried out on the launch of the Council's new website, and asked for Member's feedback. He also gave an update on progress with the new Police structure, including Crime Panels.

Councillor J. Clarke (Portfolio Holder for Finance and Performance) informed members of the need to monitor deprivation levels in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau, and also gave an update on Cemetery provision.
